麦留芳(Mak Lau Fong)

麦留芳,一九四二年出生于马来亚霹雳州怡保。一九六七年国立台湾大学毕业后,赴加拿大深造,一九六九年获加拿大安大略大学社会硕士学位。一九七九年又考获加拿大滑铁卢大学哲学博士学位(社会学)。论文是“The emergence and persistence of Chinese secret societies in Singapore and Peninsular Malaysia”。

麦博士曾于一九七一年至一九七五年担任新加坡大学社会学系讲师。一九七七年至一九八零年担任南洋大学文学院社会与心理学组讲师。一九八零年至一九九一年担任国立新加坡大学社会学系高级讲师。一九九二年起出任台湾中央研究院民族研究所研究员及中央研究院东南亚研究组研究员。

麦博士通晓中、英、巫及法文,一生从事新马华人社群的研究,又勤于著述,对星马华人秘密社会,星马华人社会组织有深入研究。已出版的专著有三十多种。其英文著作“The sociology of secret socities : a study of Chinese secret socities in Singapore and Peninsular Malaysia”已于一九八五年由张清江译成中文本“星马华人私会党的研究”由正中书局出版,作为“海外华人社会研究”丛书之八。
