廖建裕（Suryadinata Leo）
一九四一年出生于印度尼西亚。一九五八年来新加坡定居，翌年入南洋大学，初念中文系，后转入历史系。一九六二年毕业获文学士学位。在南洋大学求学时期，干劲十足，常在《星洲日报》、《南洋商报》及《南方晚报》副刊发表文章译作，此外也以马来文写作，常用笔名有谷衣、椰人等。在南洋大学期间已出版八本著作，介绍马来亚文学和印度尼西亚文学，对当时新加坡的马来语文和文学有一定的贡献和影响。南洋大学毕业后，进入印度尼西亚大学攻读印度尼西亚史，于一九六五年获荣誉学位。后赴澳大利亚莫纳石大学研究东南亚史，于一九七零年获硕士学位，论文是：“The Three Major Streams in Peranakan Chinese Politics in Java (1917-1942)”。同年应邀赴美国俄亥俄大学研究印度尼西亚华人问题，业余攻读硕士课程，一九七二年获硕士学位。一九七三年转入华盛顿美国大学国际研究院及读博士学位，于一九七五年获得哲学博士学位，论文是：“Indigenous Indonesians, the Chinese Minority and China : a Study of Perceptions and Politics”。学成回国后，受聘于新加坡东南亚研究所高级研究院。一九八二年转入新加坡国立大学任教，现为政治系副教授。
廖博士精通中、英、巫及印尼文，课余从事写作，著作等身。一九五七年迄今，已出版的中、英、巫、印尼专著已有四十多种，发表在报刊、学术期刊、书刊上的文章亦有三十余篇，是研究东南亚华人，尤其是印度尼西亚华人社会的专家。
