潘翎(Pan Lynn)
潘翎，一九四五年出生于上海。一九五零年初随父母移居香港。一年后又举家移民到北婆罗洲，在那儿接受教育。中学毕业后远赴英国求学，一九六零年进入伦敦大学，一九六三年毕业，获文学士学位。一九六四年再进入剑桥大学深造，又考获硕士学位，主修心理学。毕业后曾在英国定居和工作，并成为英国公民。
潘翎曾担任过多种职业，曾当过杂志记者、心理辅导师、中文教师、作家和华裔馆馆长。一九七七年至一九七八年在伦敦大学东方与非洲学院任教，一九七八年至一九七九年在剑桥大学任教，她也曾在瑞士、芬兰和香港工作超过十年。一九七零年代初开始写作。一九九五年出任新加坡华裔馆馆长，任期三年，主编了“The encyclopedia of the Chinese overseas”，于一九九八年在新加坡出版。中文版“海外华人百科全书”由华裔馆研究员崔贵强编译，由香港三联书店于一九九八年出版。而法文版“Encyclopedie de la disapora Chinoise”已于二零零零年在法国出版。
潘翎精通中英文，著作丰富，已出版的专书有十多种。她写的书主题多偏重于中国社会的人事物，尤其是对上海的人事物的描写和对海外华人故事的描述有独特之处。主要的中文著作有“上海沧桑一百年”。英文著作有“Sons of the yellow emperor : the story of the overseas Chinese”和“Old Shanghai : gansters in paradise”等，她的英文著作“Sons of yellow emperor”于一九九零在英国出版，被受赞赏。一九九一年获得马丁路德金纪念奖。此书已由王俊杰等译成中文版“炎黄子孙：海外华人的故事”由中国华侨出版社于一九九四年出版。
潘翎目前定居上海，从事写作。
